How to Create Lasting Change

Are there things you don’t like about about your life?  How about your body?  Your job?  Your relationships?  There’s a simple solution.

Change them.

What??!  Isn’t that a little too simplistic?  Maybe.  Maybe not.  Think about it this way: we all, at times, get caught up in moments or periods of self-doubt.  That, in itself, isn’t so bad.  It’s when you get it stuck in your head that your as good as dead.  Well… dead in your tracks, at least.  At most, you go through life like a zombie – you’re just going through the motions.  Your brain is a miraculous tool… to be used as a tool.  If you spend too much time there, strategizing, learning, planning, etc, you’ll be paralysed and will fail to take any action, ever.

Instead of overthinking it, what you need to do is act.

Commit to whatever decision it is that you’ve made, or would like to make, act on it and move yourself forward.  Simple? Yes.  Easy?  Not necessarily.

Let me ask you this: what’s one minor decision you could make right now, right this moment?  You know, one that would help take you in the direction you really want to go (even if it’s a baby-step)? Better yet, what’s a really BIG decision you could make that would move you forward leaps and bounds (it might even be a really tough decision, but if you were to make it, it would catapult you toward what you want)?

Too many people make half-assed decisions.  Are you one of them?

Here’s the reason behind your lack of follow-through: The reason you haven’t committed to a decision is that you’ve failed to act on it.

Huh??!

If you’re like most people, you were probably under the assumption that you needed to commit to your decision first.  Not so.  In fact, if you would like to really prove to yourself that you are, in fact, fully committed to your decision and are going to follow through on it, you must ACT.  Push yourself to take that first step… it’s usually the hardest one.

Here’s the thing: if you fail to act, guess what happens?  Your dreams will die. But, when you make a decision to pursue them, you can solidify your commitment by taking the first step right then and there.  Don’t wait.  If you wait, it’ll be far too easy to do what you’ve probably always done… to go home and get caught up in the 1001 other things that you think need to be done, and you won’t make any progress, whatsoever, then you’ll wonder why you can’t seem to stick to your decisions to make your dreams come true.  Am I right?

Okay.

Here’s a way for you to move toward your dreams at a much faster pace – and to even make up for lost time.

Find someone who has done what you want to do.  Perhaps they lost 50 pounds.  Or they became the top sales person for their company.  Or maybe they have a truly outstanding marriage.  Make sure that whatever it is, this person inspires you.  This is called modelling.  If you can do what someone else has done – in the quantity and with the same sort of timing – you’ll get whatever it is that they got.  Figure out what steps they took and follow those steps.  You’ll reach your goal – quickly and effortlessly.  Figure out what decision they made – that they committed to and acted on.  What did they push themselves to do that moved them closer to the future they wanted to create?

Figure it out, then do it.

After you’ve done so, let me know how it works out in the comments section below.
